Sao Joao- 2015

 
 
Marking the feast of St. John,  this festival of Sao Joao, is celebrated  retaining its’ traditional flavour, on 24th of June every year.

 Getting drenched in the festive spirit, it's time for fun and frolic.

With colourful coronets of lovely flowers and fresh leaves on their heads,


Headgears made of seasonal flowers and leaves
Villagers take a plunge in wells and ponds. From the depths they find the gifts.

welcoming the monsoon.

 Goa is not all about beaches, it's about simplicity, culture and tradition.

    It is a real treat to watch the local youth with crowns of leaves and varied fruits on their heads going out in processions carrying Goan liquor along with them and jumping into wells to have fun. Later, they enjoy a lavish feast of meat and seafood marking the end of the festival. The rainy season is a perfect foil for the Sao Joao festival as most of the people enjoy it more when its raining heavily.

    Next time I am coming to Goa for this festival,Eat lots and lots of fruits.Tie around my head flowers and leaves welcoming The Rain and Finally get drunk with GOA"S special drink and dance and dance.
